Does dental insurance cover dentures?

Yes, many dental insurance plans help cover the costs of dentures. However, the amount and type of coverage can depend on your plan.

Here’s a look into what dentures are, if dental insurance covers them and more.

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable devices that help replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They include artificial teeth and a pink base that acts as the gums. Dentures can be made from acrylic, resin, nylon, metal or porcelain and can be used for your upper jaw, lower jaw or both.

In addition to improving your dental function, dentures can improve your appearance. They help maintain the shape of your face and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting.

Tipos de dentaduras postizas

There are 4 types of dentures:

  • Immediate—These dentures are fitted the same day you have your teeth removed. Las dentaduras postizas inmediatas suelen ser una solución temporal para contribuir a la cicatrización tras un procedimiento.
  • Conventional—These are fully removable and made more precisely to fit your mouth than immediate dentures. Las dentaduras postizas convencionales generalmente se colocan después de que la boca cicatriza por completo y ocupan una sección completa de la boca que ya no tiene piezas dentales.
  • Overdenture—If your teeth do not have to be fully removed, an overdenture may be a good option. Estas dentaduras postizas se colocan sobre dientes parciales o una pequeña cantidad de dientes para ayudar a dar la apariencia de un conjunto total de dientes sanos.
  • Snap-in denturesSnap-in dentures are a semi-permanent option to replace missing teeth. They're called "snap-in" because they snap into dental implants that are screwed into your jawbone. Snap-in dentures are removable, but the dental implants are not.
